How to Check an Android App Before Installing

An app name or familiar logo alone cannot establish who published an APK. These checks help you compare a download with the app you intended to install.

Match the name and publisher

Compare the app name and developer details across the app profile, publisher website and any store listing. If the same name refers to several products, confirm which product your download belongs to. A matching name or icon is not proof of an identical package.

Check the download destination

Look at the destination before continuing. A publisher may use a separate file host, so compare the link with the publisher information for that app. HTTPS protects the connection; it does not by itself establish that a file is trustworthy. Stop if the link unexpectedly switches to a different app.

Review permissions and Android prompts

Keep Google Play Protect enabled. Read the installation prompts and consider whether requested permissions fit the app features you plan to use. Only grant installation permission to the browser or file manager you are using, and turn that permission off afterwards. Our Android installation guide explains the setup process.

Take care with updates

Use the same publisher or store channel for updates. Android can reject an update when the installed app and replacement APK have incompatible signing identities. Before removing an existing app, confirm that you can recover your account and any locally stored data.

Report a mismatched listing

If the title, logo or download destination does not match, send the page URL and a description through our website contact page. Do not include passwords, OTPs or payment credentials. Browse Rummy apps, Yono games or Diwa games to continue exploring.
